Subfloor preparation

Getting the groundwork right, first.

A great floor is only as good as what’s underneath it. Before anything goes down, we assess and prepare your subfloor properly.

Herringbone LVT laid over a freshly screeded floor

Screeding & smoothing

Water-based and latex screeding over uneven subfloors to make them suitable for new floor coverings.

Diamond grinding

Grinding back high spots, old adhesive residue and uneven concrete — including laitance removal on liquid screed — to a sound, flat surface.

Damp-proof membranes

Moisture testing and DPM application where needed, protecting your new floor from rising damp.

Underfloor heating

Experienced fitting over both wet and electric UFH systems, using the right materials throughout.

Why it matters

Flat floors make floors that last

Every bump, dip and ridge in a subfloor eventually shows through LVT, sheet vinyl and Marmoleum — and pattern lays like herringbone magnify it.

“1 day to screed the floor like glass and 1 day to fit the herringbone/parquet flooring.”

FAQ

Questions we get asked a lot

Can’t see your question? Call Tom or Jack on 07832 162 045.

Do I always need a screed?

Not always. Some subfloors only need localised repairs or a grind. We assess on site and only recommend what the floor actually needs.

Can you remove old tile adhesive?

Yes — diamond grinding takes back old adhesive residue and high spots to a sound, flat surface ready for screed or new flooring.

How do you check for damp?

We moisture-test the subfloor and apply a damp-proof membrane where readings call for one.

What’s laitance?

A weak, powdery layer that forms on the surface of liquid screeds. It has to be ground off before flooring adhesives will bond properly — something that’s easy to skip and expensive to get wrong.
